Come and experience the best MTBO terrains and views of the Suomussalmi and Kainuu region

Kainuu MTBO Week will be held in Hyrynsalmi and Suomussalmi from 28 June to 3 July 2026.

The event consists of four races held in the centre of Hyrynsalmi and on the most beautiful pine forests of Hyrynsalmi and Suomussalmi. The competition centres will be: Hyrynsalmi Unified School for the first two races, Haverinen Ski Resort (Suomussalmi) for the third race, and Suomussalmi Summer Theatre for the final fourth race.

The week’s schedule has been designed so that participants can, if they wish, combine both mountain bike orienteering and foot orienteering events in a way that suits them. The first race takes place before the opening race of Kainuu Orienteering Week, the second and third races are held during the midweek of Kainuu Orienteering Week, and the start times of the final race can be coordinated with the last race of Kainuu Orienteering Week.

The Kainuu MTBO Week is also part of the Finnish MTBO Cup series.

• 1st stage, Sun 28th June
  • at 10.00 (competition categories + open courses)
  • Location/place/venue: Hyrynsalmi Unified School / Keskusta-Istonpitkä
  • Distances: Sprint
  • Terrain description: Urban terrain in and around the centre of Hyrynsalmi
• 2nd stage, Mon 29th June
  • at 11.00 (competition categories + open courses)
  • Location/place/venue: Hyrynsalmi Unified School / Ajorata-Multimäki
  • Distances: Middle distance
  • Terrain description: Fast pine forest terrain with many trails
• 3rd stage, Wed 1st July
  • at 11.00 (competition categories + open courses)
  • Location/place/venue: Suomussalmi, Haverinen Ski Resort, Haverinen
  • Distances: Long distance
  • Terrain description: Fast pine forest terrain with many trails
• 4th stage, Fri 3rd July
  • at 13.00 (competition categories + open courses)
  • Location/place/venue: Suomussalmi Summer Theatre / Lomakylä-Hietasärkät
  • Distances: Middle distance
  • Terrain description: Ridged terrain with many small trails

Entry and registration into Kainuu MTBO Week

Entry and registration is open and the entry steps are as follows:

• 30th November 2025
• 28th February 2026
• 31st May 2026
• 7th June 2026
• On-site entry and registration is only possible for MTBO open courses (not into the MTBO competition categories)
