Kainuu Trail Hossa National Park (Finland) trail running 27th June 2026. 

The 6th Kainuu Trail Hossa National Park trail running will be arranged on Saturday 27th June 2026. Running distances are 78, 55, 38, 21 and 10 k. There is a separate competition category for 12–17-year-olds on the 10 k distance. 6th Kainuu MTBO Week 28 June - 3 July 2026

Open Sprint Orienteering Event on Monday 29th June 2026

Location: Event Centre (Jalonniemi), Jalonkaarre 5, Suomussalmi
Time: Monday, 29.6.2026, 14:00 - 17:00
Courses: A, B, and C
Entry Fee: €10
Timing: Yes (Emit/MTR)
Prizes: The fastest time on each course will receive a free entry to the competition categories or open categories for the 59th Kainuu Orienteering Week, which will be held 4.-9.7.2027 in Puolanka and Paljakka. Additionally, one (1) free entry for the entire week to the competition categories or open categories for the 2027 Orienteering Week will be raffled among all participants.

1.7.2026 Navigate to the Fish

Place: Hossa Visitor Centre (Jatkonsalmentie 6, 89920 Suomussalmi)
Time: 1.7.2026 at 13.00-17.00
Fee: Pre-registered 20 €/team, Under 18 years old 10 €/team. On site registered +5 € additional fee.
Information: The event combines the joy of exercise with the pleasure of fishing, and at the same time teams of two compete for the combined length of three different fish species. Information and registration (only Finnish).

  • Training possibilities
    Training is possible in Suomussalmi on several different maps. Training is also possible at evening and self-guided checkpoints in the municipalities of Kainuu. Suomussalmi training maps can be purchased on site at the KOW-info.
  • Turjanlinna Cruises
    • Every day at 11 and 15
    • Departure to the cruise in Suomussalmi Centre's quay, address: Viitostie 243
    • Price: Adults 20 €, kids (4-12 years) 10 €. Includes the cruise, guide services and entrance fee. Groups with more than 20 people get a discount of -10 %

  • There are plenty of offering for self-acting people from around Kainuu. 
  • There are several hiking routes in Sotkamo e.g. Hossa National Park, Martinselkonen nature reserve, Yli-Vuokki recreation ground, Murhisalo, Varisjärvi hiking trail, Viena trail and Kalmossärkkä.
  • Other places worth visiting in the Kainuu region include Hiidenportti and Tiilikkajärvi national parks and the Akkovaara and Kivesvaara hiking trails. The great hill area of Vuokatinvaara at Vuokatti are probably familiar to many, but they rejoice again and again. These and many other interesting things can be found at the day-to-day distance from Suomussalmi.

  • There are good MTB routes in Suomussalmi and nearby areas, e.g. Hossa.
  • If necessary, it is possible to rent a mountain bike, check out the bikes available for rent.
