Kainuu's new Regional Mayor appointed as the patron of Kainuu Orienteering Week 2024

The new Regional Mayor of Kainuu, Riikka Pirkkalainen, has agreed to serve as the patron of the 56th Kainuu Orienteering Week, which will take place at Joutenlampi in Kajaani from June 30th to July 5th, 2024.

Dear orienteering enthusiasts,
I hope that this summer's traditional Kainuu Orienteering Week will be successful and memorable as always. The nature of Kainuu offers experiences for all outdoor enthusiasts, providing the right balance of challenge and enjoyment for orienteers. This year, the stunning landscapes of Kajaani will set the stage for unforgettable experiences.
Kainuu Orienteering Week has a proud history and holds a traditional place in the summer calendars of many Finnish and international visitors. The target audience for the event is as diverse as our region of Kainuu itself: from children to adults, families, groups of friends, and all levels of fitness enthusiasts, from beginners to top-level orienteers.
Kainuu Orienteering Week is Finland's largest orienteering event, of which we in the region are immensely proud. The event highlights Kainuu's traditions, and each year, a countless number of volunteers from Kainuu commit themselves to its arrangement. This commitment reflects the strong determination of the people of Kainuu to organize high-quality sport events and to offer the experiences of our beautiful region to visitors.
The values guiding the organization of the event are excellent and action-oriented, mirroring the essence of Kainuu itself. Personally, I am drawn to the value of cheerfulness and ease, characteristics for which the people of Kainuu are known.
