Kainuu Orienteering Week (KOW) is coming to Suomussalmi in the summer of 2026, bringing thousands of orienteers and their families from all over Finland and abroad! The event is a great opportunity for residents and businesses in the Suomussalmi area to earn extra income.

We are now looking for eager locals – residents, small businesses, and even larger companies – to place their cottage, detached house, terraced or block apartment, or even just a single room/suite in our accommodation service. We accept all types of well-maintained accommodation properties.

Why list your property with Kainuu Orienteering Week's accommodation service?

1. Easy Extra Income: Event visitors need plenty of accommodation, and demand is traditionally very high. You can earn a good sum by renting out your property – the rental period is usually one week, and next summer the dates are June 27 – July 4 (Saturday – Saturday).
2. We Handle the Practical Work – You Earn: Listing your property has been made as easy as possible. You just fill out the registration form, and we take care of the rest:
   1. Marketing the property on the KOW website.
   2. Receiving reservations and customer service.
   3. Collecting payments.
3. Secure Financial Transactions: We take care of the entire payment process. After the event, we will transfer the agreed rental sum to you no later than August 31, 2026 (transfers are usually made already during July).
4. You Support Local Work: You support the club activities of Suomussalmen Rasti and the regional economy of the locality and Kainuu.
5. You are collaborating to support one of Finland's largest sports tourism events and enabling its success next summer in Suomussalmi.
6. You offer KOW guests an unforgettable Kainuu experience!

What kind of properties are we looking for?

The optimal location for accommodation is within a distance of 5–30 kilometers from the Competition Centre (Kangasjärventie 78, Suomussalmi, Säynäjä). Good accommodation properties are also sold at a further distance of 30–60 kilometers. A suitable property may still be rented out from even further away if the customer's wishes are met, so we encourage you to boldly list your properties for intermediation.

We intermediate all types of properties:

• Entire Property:
  • Cottages
  • Holiday apartments
  • Detached houses
  • Terraced and block apartments
• Individual Rooms/Dormitories:
  • If you do not want to rent out your entire apartment or cottage, you can offer just one or more rooms.
• Accommodation for Larger Groups:
  • For example, village halls and schools, etc.

Familiarize yourself with the instructions:

1. Read the more detailed instructions on pricing and rental terms on our website.
2. Fill out the "List Private Accommodation Property" form:
   1. Good basic information improves the sale of the property, so it is worth investing in this and filling out the property information carefully.
   2. Take attractive pictures of the accommodation property, both inside and out (preferably plenty of pictures, which makes marketing easier = improves sales!).

3. We will add your property to our online store for intermediation:
   1. Once your property has been approved for intermediation, it will be published in our KOW webshop, and reservations will begin.
   2. When the property is reserved, we will inform you immediately.
4. Prepare to welcome KOW guests:
   1. Agree on key handover with the customer after we have provided the booker's contact information via email.
   2. Clean and prepare the accommodation property for KOW guests.
   3. Finally, check that all the practical arrangements and services of the accommodation property are as you described in the property listing.
5. After Kainuu O Week:
   1. Kainuu O Week guests will clean your accommodation property to the condition it was in before the start of the accommodation.
   2. Go and check the accommodation property immediately after the end of the accommodation and, if necessary, contact the customer or our office if needed.
   3. Wait calmly for the rental payment transfer – we will transfer all payments no later than August 31, 2026 (transfers are usually made already during July).

Now is an excellent time to list an accommodation property

Our customers are especially looking for accommodation properties during the beginning of the year (January-March), so now is definitely the time to list your accommodation property for intermediation.

If you list your accommodation property already in December, please fill out the accommodation form no later than Sunday, December 21. The accommodation office will be on Christmas holiday from December 23, 2025 – January 4, 2026.

In January, our office will process accommodation property listings on weekdays starting from January 5.

The 58th Kainuu Orienteering Week and the 6th Kainuu MTBO Week will be held in Suomussalmi from June 28 to July 3, 2026. The Kainuu Orienteering Week event week will be kicked off for the sixth time by the Kainuu Trail running event in Hossa National Park on Saturday, June 27, 2026. A total of 5,000 different customers are expected to attend these events.
