Orienteer and Fish: Experience Hossa''s Stunning Waters and the Joy of Outdoor Life – Walk, Run, Cycle, and Fish!

Kainuu Orienteering Week’s side events offer something brand new this summer: the "Orienteer and Fish" (Suunnista Fisuun) event combines the joy of orienteering and fishing in the breathtaking scenery of Hossa National Park on the second rest day of the week, Wednesday, July 1st, 2026.
The crystal-clear waters and magnificent pine-needle paths of Hossa invite you to get moving! Orienteer and Fish is a fast-paced yet relaxed outdoor event where the goal is to combine physical activity with fishing. The event is perfect for groups of friends, active enthusiasts, and adventurous families alike.
Competition and Fun for All Ages
The heart of the event is a competition for teams of two, where you can move either on foot or by bike. The contest measures the total length of three different fish species, so both strategy and a bit of luck with the line are needed! You can decide which active fishing method you use to lure the fish:
- Traditional bait fishing (hook and line)
- Lure fishing (spinning)
- Fly fishing
If competing isn't your thing, you are still warmly welcome to join! There will be guided points and rental equipment available, so you can come and learn the secrets of fishing under the guidance of professionals.

Bus transport from Suomussalmi to Hossa and back
If you need a shared bus transport from Suomussalmi, please indicate this when registering. The bus departs from Suomussalmi at 9:30 and leaves Hossa for the return trip at 18:00. The shared transport will be organized if there are enough participants. The bus fare is €10 per person.
