Kainuu Orienteering Week in Sotkamo offers orienteering enthusiasts an unforgettable holiday week. In addition to orienteering, there is a diverse range of activities for the whole family during the rest days of the week. The stunning nature of Sotkamo and Vuokatti, along with various activities and cultural attractions, ensures that everyone finds something to enjoy.

Orienteering every day
During Kainuu Orienteering Week, you can go orienteering every day if you like! Sprint and self-guided orienteering opportunities make this possible. Sprint orienteering is available on Monday, June 30th, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., as well as on Wednesday, July 2nd, during the opening hours of the KOW-info at the event centre.
The popular rest day team (duo) orienteering, held last year in Sotkamo, will return on Wednesday, July 2nd, organized by Kajaanin Suunnistajat. Additionally, nearby municipalities offer self-guided orienteering tracks through their local orienteering clubs. Check the options available near your accommodation and enjoy the peaceful forest at your own pace.

Explore nature or relax by the beach
Sotkamo is home to numerous wonderful natural attractions that are worth visiting. The gorge of Hiidenportti National Park and the sandy ridges of Tiilikkajärvi National Park offer unforgettable outdoor experiences. Hike the hills of Vuokatti via trails such as the UKK Trail, Eino Leino Trail, or Sapporo Trail. Mountain bikers can enjoy scenic routes from Hiukka Beach towards Pöllyvaara.
For families, Hiukka Nature Trail and the culturally valuable Naapurivaara Lepikko Trail are excellent choices. On sunny days, Hiukka beach is a perfect spot to relax, soak up the sun, and cool off in the water.

Activities and adventures for all
Sotkamo and Vuokatti offer a wide range of activities for all ages. Vuokatti Adventure Park provides thrilling climbing experiences for everyone. Vuokatti Safaris organizes family-friendly canoeing trips, church boat rowing, and exciting Speedboat rides. At Katinkulta, you can enjoy golf, padel, tennis, and spa treatments with luxurious pampering services. SuperPark is perfect for younger children, while Vuokatti Water experience center offers water fun for older kids. On rainy days, indoor activities include The Great Escape escape rooms and Vuokatti Bowling, which features bowling, darts, billiards, and snooker. After an active day, head to Hiukka Baseball Stadium to watch Sotkamon Jymy’s Superpesis games, held twice during orienteering week.

Cultural tips
Sotkamo’s cultural offerings provide a delightful change of pace. Naapurivaaran huvikeskus (dance place), known as “Napis,” hosts traditional summer dances throughout the season. Start your holiday with the Summer Dance on Saturday, June 28th, or unwind after the second orienteering day at the Orienteering Week Dance on Tuesday, July 1st. The local cinema, Kino Visio, offers a selection of films for movie enthusiasts.
Cultural landmarks include. Huovishuone, where you can explore the life and works of Sotkamo-born author Veikko Huovinen. Tervajärvi house museum and Makasiini museum, located near Sotkamo Church, take visitors back in time.
