At Kainuu Orienteering Week, we wrap up the week of orienteering in a delicious and responsible way – on Friday, July 4, we’re celebrating Food Waste Awareness Day under the theme "Are you navigating the sustainable path?"

During the final stage of the event, our lunch restaurant will serve up a fresh take on the best dishes from the entire week. This isn’t just a culinary experience – it’s also an environmental act. Our goal is to minimize food waste and show that even event catering can be part of sustainable development.

How have we done so far?

After the first two stages, only 15 kg of biowaste has been generated at the event – and 2.5 kg of that was due to an accidentally broken food package. For an event of this size, that’s an exceptionally low amount of waste!

This success belongs to all of us – thank you to every orienteer and diner who made this possible!

Friday’s Buffet – What’s on the Menu?

On Friday, our lunch buffet features a rotating selection of delicious and high-quality dishes made from surplus food from earlier in the week. The menu changes throughout the day based on what’s still available – so make sure to come early to enjoy the best variety!

Special Friday Lunch Prices:

  • Adults: €12.50 (reg. €13.50)
  • Children aged 6–12: €5.50 (reg. €6.50)
  • Children under 6: eat for free with a paying adult

Eat Well, Do Good

By choosing surplus food, you’re making a sustainable choice and actively reducing food waste. It’s a small act for you – but a big step toward more responsible events.
