Hossa National Park calls you to (Kainuu Trail) run!

Published: 31.08.2023

Kainuu Trail Hossa National Park (Finland) 3rd of July 2021 is a brand new trail running event in Finland and in the Finland’s newest national park - Hossa which was nominated as a national park on year 2017. Therefore Hossa became Finland’s 40th National Park.

In this Finnish trail running event we offer for trail runners all the perfect trail running trails, terrains, sceneries, and sightseeings of Hossa National Park´s area - and all these experiences during the one day.

Hossa National Park calls you to run
It is easy to immerse oneself in Hossa National park’s beautiful forests and clear lakes because of it’s easy accessibility. Hossa’s paths call visitors to walk, rivers to canoe and lakes to fish. You’ll be walking on the same paths as the first inhabitants over 10,000 years ago and even see rock paintings from the stone age at Colour Rock. These rock paintings transfer you to the world of Finnish shamanism and tell the stories of the Finnish history.

Good to know for trail runners
We would like to kindly remind trail runners and other participants taking part in the Kainuu Trail run event that the event is held in a national park and this is why littering is absolutely forbidden in the area. If a participant leaves litter on the paths organizers are eligible to issue a time fine of 60 minutes or if needed disqualify the trail runner. If it is absolutely necessary to leave litter while on the paths please do so on the marked service stations provided by the organizers or general litter stations which are usually located near fireplaces and other services. Let’s make an effort together that the youngest national park of Finland stays as clean and as pristine as it was before the trail running event.
Thank you for your consideration in advance.

Drinkability of the natural waters of Hossa National Park
Runners can use the natural waters of Hossa National Park as a source of drinking water (this is of course at your own risk). The route master of Kainuu Trail event Jukka Liuha has been hiking in the area of Hossa since 2008;
- Over the 12 years that I have visited in Hossa at least I haven’t had any problems when drinking natural water from the lakes, ponds, rivers or streams of Hossa, says Liuha. Of course trail runners should take into consideration that it is recommended to drink water from places with a current. Suitable option of course is not a swamp pond where water has stood for a while, Liuha specifies with a small twinkle in the corner of his eye.
