Kainuu Orienteering Week is an event for the whole family, where you can combine orienteering with a relaxing holiday. KOW is a full-service event with large amount of competition categories and diverse selection of open courses (recreational orienteering).  Kainuu Orienteering Week is the biggest orienteering week in Finland and second oldest orienteering week in the World, which has been held continuously since 1966. The event is for orienteers of all ages; beginners, fitness orienteers, competition and top orienteers, families, groups of friends, work groups and everyone else who is enthusiastic about orienteering and likes moving around in nature.

This year, Finland's largest orienteering week will be held in Puolanka in the fine orienteering terrain of the Luhtakangas-Äikänvaara area. Kainuu Orienteering Week Event Centre (school accommodation, sprint orienteering, additional program etc.) is located in the Puolanka city centre and the actual KOW2022 Competition Centre, from which all 4 different stages are run, is located in Luhtakangas and Pyssylampi (Kuirivaarantie 1, Puolanka).

The competition bus runs on every four days between the Event Centre - Competition Centre - Event Centre non-stop about in one hour intervals

Versatile services at the Competition Centre for visitors of the Kainuu O-Week

At the Luhtakangas Competition Centre, orienteers are served by a fairly extensive range of different services on every four days of the competition.
- Our Competition Centre has for example the Muksula (Child Care Service), the Rastiralli Adventure Track for the youngest ones of the family, Koiraparkki (Dog Park) for dog owners, showers and changing rooms, toilets, first-aid station, wide range of restaurant and café services, Ice Cream and Soft Ice kiosk, Candy shop, the presentation and sales points of local entrepreneurs, the KOW product and merch store, the smooth transport schedules of the competition bus and, as a bonus, the nearby parking areas under 1 km from Competition Centre, the chief of competition Martti Köngäs explains.

Great orienteering terrain, top class maps and tracks provides a perfect starting point for a memorable orienteering week

The pine forest dominated terrains of Luhtakangas are enjoyable to orienteer and run

Teemu Köngäs and Lasse Köngäs, high experienced course setters, are preparing the Kainuu Orienteering Week tracks. Among other things, they have been responsible for the tracks of Kainuu Orienteering Week, which was the spectator event of the 2013 World Orienteering Championships, as well as they have been responsible on several other previous KOW events. In addition, Tomi Kanniainen, a young orienteer from Puolanka, has joined the group of course setters as a new one.
- Regarding the competition arrangements related to orienteering, we can promise all orienteers one of the finest orienteering terrains in Kainuu. During the first two stages, the orienteers will be able to enjoy the fine pine forest dominated terrains of Luhtakangas, and in the last two stages, the orienteers will see and experience the orienteering in the challenging slopes and great landscapes of Äikänvaara hill area, says Teemu Köngäs, head of course setting team.

Jukka Liuha, the general secretary of Kainuu O-Week, says that he trusts in the work of the course setters and awaits the top quality of the tracks for the this summer.
- I can promise that the KOW2022 orienteering tracks are at the top level for both competition and open orienteers with all the little nuances - down to every control point. The orienteering map is also, as usual and guaranteed, world-class, when Mapline Oy and its professionals are responsible for the mapping of this year's Kainuu Orienteering Week, Liuha summarizes.
