How to Arrive at Kainuu Orienteering Week 2025

Are you arriving at Kainuu Orienteering Week by car, van, motorhome, or a car-trailer combination? Or will you be using our event bus transportation services? Perhaps you are arriving by bicycle, moped, or motorcycle? Below you’ll find the key information about arriving at the event, parking areas, access routes, and bus services to the KOW competition centre.

Cars, Vans, Motorhomes, and Caravan Combinations

Parking Areas

• The previously used P3 parking area is no longer in use – now the following areas are available: P1, P2, and P4
• P1 – ACCESSIBLE: Only available by advance purchase for vehicles with an official accessibility parking permit. → Contact: info@rastiviikko.fi
• P2 – VIP / MEDIA: Pre-sale only. → Sold out!
• P2 – FAMILY: Located 250–400 m walking distance from the competition centre. Reserved for families with children. → Tickets still available.
  • Suitable for passenger cars and small vans.
• P4 – GENERAL: About 2.5 km from the competition centre.
  • Includes a nonstop shuttle bus service to and from the competition centre.
  • Suitable for passenger cars, vans, and motorhomes.
  • Buy your parking ticket on-site at the KOW Info!

Note: Caravan combinations (e.g., car and caravan) are not permitted in the competition parking areas. We recommend parking trailers at your accommodation or in public parking areas.

Note: Bicycles, mopeds, and motorcycles may park in the designated area within the P2–VIP parking area.

One-Way Traffic on Ohravaarantie

When arriving at the competition centre, vehicles must turn from Nurmestie onto Ohravaarantie.

Ohravaarantie will be one-way during each competition day between the following junctions: Nurmestie → Rekivaarantie. This one-way traffic arrangement is in effect on all four competition days.

• Exiting from P4
  • The P4 parking area is located near the beginning of Ohravaarantie (right after turning from Nurmestie).
  • From P4, you can exit directly to the right – no need to drive the full loop of Ohravaarantie!

Event Bus (Sotkamo–Katinkulta–Vuokatti–Competition Centre) & Free Buses from Kajaani

The event bus operates from Sotkamo town centre via Katinkulta and the KOW Event Centre (Vuokatti Sport) to the Competition Centre at Heikkilän Pirtti – and back – on all four competition days.

This paid shuttle runs every 45 minutes.

The drop-off point is at the Ohravaarantie–Otrantie intersection, approx. 700 m walking distance to the competition centre.

Free Bus Transfers from Kajaani

Free bus services will operate from Kajaani to the competition centre on each of the four race days. Please note that the number of free bus tickets is limited!

Drop-off location: Ohravaarantie–Otrantie intersection. Approx. 700 m walking distance to the competition centre.

Walking to the Competition Centre

All buses drop passengers at the Ohravaarantie–Otrantie junction. From there, it’s a 700 m walk to the competition centre.

On Otrantie, pedestrians must walk on the left side of the road when heading to the competition centre, and on the right side when walking back – do not walk on the same side in both directions!

Reserve your parking ticket in advance – or at the latest, get it from the KOW Info desk upon arrival.
