Next summer, Kainuu Orienteering Week will be held in Paljakka, Puolanka, from 4 to 9 July 2027.
The terrain in Paljakka offers a magnificent showcase of the finest orienteering landscapes in the Kainuu, Arctic Lakeland. To the east of the competition centre lies the Latvavaara hill, where long, continuous slopes with up to 150 meters of elevation await amidst ancient, moss-covered spruce forests. Part of this area is a protected old-growth forest. The southern part of the hill transitions into highly detailed terrain characterized by intricate depressions, knolls, and rocks.
The western part of the map is dominated by several hilly areas featuring rocky outcrops, cliffs, and gullies that demand extremely precise navigation.
The areas near the competition centre consist of pleasant pine forests with excellent visibility and runnability, ensuring high-speed finishes. Children’s courses are located in these areas, utilizing an extensive network of paths and tracks to assist orienteering.
World-class maps and courses provide appropriate challenges for everyone from beginners to elite athletes. The third competition day features middle-distance courses for all categories.
