Accommodation Status for Kainuu Orienteering Week 2026

Summer and the 58th Kainuu Orienteering Week (June 28 – July 3, 2026) are approaching in Suomussalmi. Accommodation for the event is currently in high demand. This bulletin provides an update on the current accommodation availability in the Suomussalmi area.

Plenty of Space in Dormitory Accommodation

There is still good availability at the Karhulanvaara student dormitory. The dormitory is located near the Suomussalmi village (Kirkonkylä), with the nearest grocery store approximately 3 km away. The distance to the Suomussalmi center (Ämmänsaari) is about 7 km. The dormitory is located along the official competition bus route, making travel to the competition center easy and convenient on competition days.

Kainuu Orienteering Week Camping Ground Nearly Full

The official Kainuu Orienteering Week camping ground is nearly fully booked for motorhomes with electric hook-ups. Electric pitches for caravans are now sold out.
Non-electric places for motorhomes and caravans are still available in the ice hall area.
Tent places: A few spots are still available for booking.

Plenty of Space at Korpiporo Camping

The Korpiporo camping area still has plenty of space for both motorhomes and caravans. The distance to the competition center is 19 km. Korpiporo is also located along the competition bus route, ensuring smooth logistics during the competition days.

New Accommodation at Kurimo Guest House

We are pleased to announce new accommodation options at the Kurimo Guest House (Kurimon majatalo). They offer dormitory-style rooms for 1–5 people, as well as a larger apartment for up to 12 people. Additionally, the guest house grounds have pitches available for motorhomes, caravans, and tents.

Private Accommodation

There is a good selection of private accommodation available, and more listings are expected throughout May. We are accepting new private accommodation listings until May 24th, and these final new options will be made available for booking immediately after this date. This means the selection will be updated towards the end of May, so be sure to check our website regularly.

Commercial Accommodation

Many commercial hotels and holiday rentals are already fully booked. However, we recommend contacting providers directly to check for the latest availability, as spots may become available at short notice due to cancellations.
