Kainuu O Week open courses
Open courses at the Kainuu O Week offers a wide range of courses for participants of all levels. There are 9 different course and skill level options: A-long, A-medium, A-short, B-long, B-medium, B-short, C-long, C-short, and the Open RR route for beginners, families, and children.
For the youngest participants, there is also an adventure-style fun course, which can be completed individually or together with the family.
By registering now for Kainuu Orienteering Week, you get daily rates of:
- Under 14s: €9.75 / day
- Open RR series (formerly Family-RR): €9.75 / day
- Adult recreational courses: €16 / day
Savings compared to on-site registration can be over 40%.
KOW Competition Categories
Like the recreational courses, competition classes consist of four races and two rest days. The weekly schedule is:
1st race (Sun 28 June) → rest day (Mon 29 June) → 2nd race (Tue 30 June) → rest day (Wed 1 July) → 3rd race (Thu 2 July) → 4th race (Fri 3 July)
Age classes are H/D8–95 and Elite H/D16–21E. Overall results are determined by the combined scores of all four races, and in the Elite classes the final race features a pursuit start.
Early registration is highly recommended for competition classes as well: savings can be over 40%.
Kainuu MTBO Week
Enjoy top-level mountain bike orienteering terrain and stunning landscapes in Kainuu and Suomussalmi! Kainuu MTBO Week will be held in Hyrynsalmi and Suomussalmi from 28 June to 3 July 2026.
The week consists of four races across Hyrynsalmi and Suomussalmi’s finest pine forests.
Competition centres:
- Races 1–2: Hyrynsalmi Comprehensive School (Hyrynsalmi)
- Race 3: Haverinen Ski Center (Suomussalmi)
- Race 4: Suomussalmi Summer Theater (Suomussalmi)
Participants can combine MTBO and Orienteering Week schedules flexibly: the first race is held before the KOW opening race, the second and third during rest days, and final race start times are coordinated with the last KOW race.
Early registration for MTBO also brings significant savings: you can save almost 40% compared to on-site registration.
New! Cancellation Protection
For 2026, Kainuu Orienteering Week introduces cancellation insurance, available when registering for both competition and open courses. The insurance can be purchased until 21 June 2026, giving participants additional flexibility and peace of mind.
Cancellation insurance costs €10 per person and can be purchased via the KOW online store. Each participant has 14 days to buy cancellation insurance after registration.
With cancellation protection, participants can cancel up to the event day, with the full entry fee refunded.
